It was a rainy day in Washington, DC. The sun was expected, but it never came out early. Nancy, who had been in her office all morning, decided to head home. Looking out the window, she could see it was raining. “Wow, I thought we were supposed to have good weather today,” she said to her assistant. “I thought so too. Let me get you an umbrella.” Quickly, her assistant went to find an umbrella so she could exit the building without getting wet. “What took you so long?” Nancy asked her assistant. “I’m so sorry. I’ve been looking for an umbrella. I came as quickly as I could when I found someone who had one.” Looking confused, Nancy shook her head. The only reason she had kept this assistant working with her was that she was a family friend. Nancy had already looked at her hands, but there was no umbrella. “So, where is the umbrella?” Nancy asked in a calm voice. “I came as quickly as I could,” the assistant said. You could tell she was trying to explain the situation. Without hesitation, she told Nancy that she had looked all over but couldn’t find an umbrella. Nancy asked why she didn’t get the umbrella from that person. “So, where is it?” Nancy couldn’t believe they were having this conversation. To her, this was something that should’ve already been in the car. She asked if the assistant had checked the car. “I checked everywhere. He said that he’d let it go if you shook his hand.” Nancy looked confused. She wondered who she was talking about. “A tall white man asked me to tell you that he can only give the umbrella to you if you agree to shake his hand.” Nancy couldn’t believe her ears. How could someone ask for something like that? Nancy asked who was making these demands. The assistant told her that it was Donald Trump. “Don’t think, just do it, like the Nike slogan,” said the assistant. “Okay, I’ll do it. Where is he?” Nancy just wanted to go home. She had been working all night, and due to some extra work, she couldn’t make it home and had to stay until morning. Donald Trump, on the other hand, had just arrived to meet some of his Republican friends. He had lots of umbrellas and wouldn’t mind getting a handshake from Nancy for a campaign he was running.
